I seem to remember enjoying them, and I know humour is one of the trademarks of her mysteries, but the humour in Curious Minds just fell flat for me. While the mystery aspect was interesting, it also seemed more set up for a caper type adventure for the leads than an actual puzzle to solve, which makes the characters and the humour much more important to get right.Ĭurious Minds stars the unlikely duo of Emerson Knight, an introverted, eccentric and handsome billionaire, and Riley Moon, a feisty financial analyst assigned essentially to babysit Emerson when he makes the unusual request to withdraw all his gold from the bank. I’m sure I must’ve read Evanovich’s Stephanie Plum novels before. Curious Minds is a mystery-adventure caper featuring a pair of quirky and seemingly incompatible leads that I think may work better on the screen rather than as a book. Without charismatic actors to bring Knight and Moon to life, they just came off as trying a bit too hard to be funny but instead are being a jerk (Knight) or simply annoying (Moon).

The story doesn't really push you to read non stop although you do feel you want to know more. Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting? What about Frank Muller’s performance did you like?įrank Muller was excellent (as usual) backing up his performances of the Dark Tower novels. I don't think I had a particular favourite character due to the way the story flows from character to character without a main focal point. Would you consider the audio edition of The Regulators to be better than the print version?įrank Muller is an excellent audiobook reader so makes the story come alive a little more than just from reading it yourself. The book was adapted into a feature film, Prozac Nation (2001), starring Christina Ricci. It ultimately carried the subtitle Young and Depressed in America: A Memoir. Wurtzel originally titled the book I Hate Myself and I Want To Die but her editor convinced her otherwise. Prozac is a trade name for the antidepressant fluoxetine. The book describes the author's experiences with atypical depression, her own character failings and how she managed to live through particularly difficult periods while completing college and working as a writer. It is difficult to think of another individual through whom one can better tell the story of how Britain changed from the high imperialism of Queen Victoria's Diamond Jubilee of 1897, through two world wars, the great depression, the nuclear age and the Cold War, and the transition from empire into commonwealth. It is also more emblematic, and more representative, of Britain in his time. Not only does Clement Attlee's life deserve to have a rightful place alongside the Churchill legend. The gallons of ink spilled on Winston Churchill - and the huge appetite for books about him - have created something of an imbalance in our understanding of twentieth-century Britain. All of this is reasonably engineered and explained but what you've been missing is a real aura or a true frisson in these annals of trance-substantiation. Barrett's fine desensitizing machine fails. You're looking on rather than taken in when a wealthy man offers $100,000 to a physicist, Dr. Although Matheson has lots of equipment as a novelist and screen writer, and all the paranormal information he needs from apports to xenoglossy, somehow he misses.
